Course Description

Reading Methods/Language Arts Methods for Middle Level enables the prospective middle school teacher candidate to understand the processes of Reading/Language Arts. Candidates will be introduced, through theory and practice, to a variety of strategies for teaching middle level reading/language arts. Candidates will become aware of ways to assess reading/language arts and ways to support middle school students as they develop as readers, writers and critical thinkers. Candidates will also learn how to create a student and response-centered classroom rich with listening, speaking, reading, writing and visually representing. They will learn to incorporate appropriate teaching strategies, assessments, and instructional media. Topics such as reading processes, vocabulary development, reading strategies, and disciplinary literacy in content areas will be addressed. Pre-requisites: MLED2000 3 Credits
