PRAD2800 - Creative Thinking & Strategies

The course teaches students important theories, techniques, and strategies of creative thinking, which are required for designing advertising, developing media campaigns, planning events, and more. It gives students hands-on opportunities to draft verbal and nonverbal public messages and develop campaign projects related to media and public relations while following the creative process. In addition, the course equips students with the knowledge of analyzing and assessing creative ideas in terms of their appropriateness and potential reach, impact, and risk.

PRAD3050 - Advertising Strategies

How do you persuade people to spend money on one product or service as opposed to another? By developing effective advertising strategies, and then executing those strategies by crafting creative ads. This course is designed to give students skills to enable them to more effectively participate in the process of developing and managing advertising and integrated brand communications. We will focus on understanding the product or service, researching the competition, identifying the target audiences, understanding consumer motivators, identifying advertising mediums, and developing the right message to create thoughtful and effective advertising strategies.

This course is designed to review the latest principles of public relations and advertising with emphasis upon the crucial role of research in the field of public relations and advertising to develop informed strategy, monitor communication programs, and to evaluate overall campaign effectiveness. The course begins with an extensive orientation to the types of research essential at various stages of public relations and advertising campaigns. Building on the research skills from the core research course, students will learn more advanced research concepts and methods in public relations and advertising and apply those skills to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of public relations and advertising campaigns.

PRAD4020 - Public Relations Practices In

Globalization has propelled mainstream organizations to rethink business plans and conduct strategic planning from a new perspective. As a result, the practice of public relations requires a new dimension: understanding the culture, media, economy and political structure of the country in which the organization operates or seeks to operate. Students enrolled in "Public Relations Practices in a Global Society" can earn credit by taking the course at RMU or through participation in an international experience and preparing a research document reflective of an international PR issue.

PRAD4800 - Integrated Media Campaigns
Summer 2024
Integrated Media Campaigns is the capstone course for the Public Relations & Advertising major. This is the culmination of what students have learned in their theory, research, writing, and creative courses. The primary objective of the class is for students to showcase their knowledge and skills on how public relations and advertising messages work in sync to maximize the desired goals. Students will evaluate public relations and advertising case studies as well as execute a full integrated media campaign for a brand.
