Section will be taught totally online with no scheduled class meetings. Students must arrange for daily access to a computer and the Internet prior to the start of classes. Robert Morris labs are to be used only as a backup in special situations and may not be relied upon for extended periods of time. In addition to the Internet link, online classes have a large emphasis on email. Course Description
This course is a broad overview of the profession of nursing. Students will be provided with a foundation in the scientific and social dimension of nursing as a discipline and a health profession. Students will examine the history of nursing and assess the impact of that development on the contemporary role of nursing in today's health care system. Students will be introduced to the nursing process, with special attention to critical thinking and decision-making as related to the nursing process. Professional values of altruism, autonomy, human dignity, integrity and social justice will be addressed. Finally, students will briefly examine global healthcare.
