Course Description

This course is an introduction to the study of human societies. This course will provide an overview of the findings, concepts, methods, and applications of cultural anthropology. Of particular concern will be the similarities and differences of various cultures and how anthropologists attempt to understand and compare them. Cultural anthropologists compare and contrast how living people with different historical traditions deal with the fundamental problems of living through language, the economy, family life, religion, and other social institutions. The relevance of anthropology for dealing with contemporary problems will also be explored. 3 Credits
