PSYC6040 - Grief and Bereavement

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the theories, assessments and treatments necessary for counseling professionals planning to work with adults, children, and families dealing with bereavement. The class will focus on the psychological, physical, and spiritual aspects of death, dying, and bereavement as well as gain an understanding of the mourning process and types of losses. The class will offer an overview of the historical, cultural and religious diversity, developmental context, community, emerging trends, and legal/ethical dimensions of death, dying, and bereavement. 3 Credits
