Professional BackgroundHayward joined RMU in Fall 2001 after a 26-year career as a transportation consultant with the Michael Baker Corporation, concluding his career there as executive vice president of the transportation business unit. When he left in 2000, Dr. Hayward was a corporate officer, responsible for the management of the firm?s entire transportation practice. In this capacity he directed the efforts of over 700 engineers and scientists in the planning, design and construction of transportation facilities located across the nation. During the last year of his leadership, this unit recorded annual revenues of $221 million, placing the firm among the largest transportation engineering and construction organizations in the U.S. Dr. Hayward has served on academic and research advisory boards at Ohio University, Carnegie Mellon University and the Penn State University and in 1995 he was recognized as an outstanding engineering alumnus from Penn State.As an Associate Professor of Engineering, Dr. Hayward teaches mainly in the M.S. Engineering Management program. Graduate courses in engineering cost estimating and financial analysis, project management, proposal development, global engineering management and discrete event simulation are typical of Dr. Hayward's teaching assignments.At RMU, Dr. Hayward has served as Director of the Logistics Engineering program and was the Engineering Department Head when the RMU Engineering program was first accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET). Currently he is the Director of Graduate Engineering Programs and Co-Head for Grants and Research of the School of Engineering Mathematics and Science Research and Outreach Center (SEMS-ROC).
