Total of 10 Colonials Garner 2006 All-NEC Outdoor Track & Field Honors
Led by freshman Andrew McCloskey (Glen Mills, Pa. / Penncrest) of the Robert Morris University men's track and field team, a total of 10 Colonials from both the men's and women's clubs garnered 2006 All-Northeast Conference outdoor track and field honors.
McCloskey was named the men's Rookie of the Meet at the 2006 NEC Championships after finishing second in the 200-meter dash, fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.07) and also running the lead-leg of the 4x400-meter relay team (3:16.25) which qualified for the IC4A and finished third at the NEC meet. His time of 21.93 in the 200 was a career best. For his second-place effort in the 200-meter dash, McCloskey garnered All-NEC Second Team honors.
The lone Colonial to garner first team honors for the men was sophomore Mark Caskey (St. Mary's, Pa. / St. Mary's), who won the high jump thanks to a leap of 6'10.75", a personal best in the event. Finishing in second in the high jump with the exact same mark was junior Jeff Witmyer (West Lawn, Pa. / Wilson), who garners second team accolades for his performance.
Joining McCloskey and Witmyer as All-NEC Second Team honorees were sophomore Phillips Thompson (New Castle, Pa. / Shenango) and juniors Adam Woodford (Downington, Pa. / Downington) and Josh Ghaly (Oakdale, Pa. / West Allegheny). Thompson took home a runner-up finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase thanks to a time of 9:28.11, while Woodford and Ghaly made their marks in the jumps. Woodford finished second in the triple jump thanks to a leap of 47'1", while Ghaly finished second in the pole vault (14'11").
For the Robert Morris women, three Colonials garnered All-NEC First Team honors in senior Ericka Frazee (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) and juniors Brittany Humphress (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Falls) and Stephanie Kuhn (Finleyville, Pa. / Ringgold). Frazee won the high jump thanks to a leap of 5'4.5", while Humphress claimed the individual championship in the triple jump (39'2.50"). Kuhn won her signature event at the NEC championships to garner All-NEC First Team honors, winning the javelin with a throw of 150'1". Senior Katie Fisher (Reading, Pa. / Muhlenberg), meanwhile, finished second in her signature event, the hammer throw, with a toss of 168'1" to garner second team all-conference honors.
