RMU Announces New School of Business Department Heads

Robert Morris University (RMU) announces the following faculty appointments in its School of Business, effective June 1, 2006.

Associate professor of management Jeffery Guiler, Ph.D., has been named head of the department of management. With 35 years of management and consulting experience in academia and industry, Guiler has directed various programs at RMU, including the MBA program, the American Humanics program, and academic programs for the School of Adult and Continuing Education.

As director of the American Humanics program, a nationwide nonprofit management initiative for students, Guiler has developed service projects and internships for students to work in the community. Currently, he holds two national positions with American Humanics, as chair of both its faculty development committee and national internship committee. In addition, he is founding editor of the American Humanics Journal for Nonprofit Management, published by the School of Business.

Guiler's work experience in the retail industry with Hornes and Kaufmann's included responsibilities for labor and employee relations, employee benefits, and executive recruitment and development. He also held similar positions in management and human resources with Gimbels in New York and Pittsburgh as well as Macy's. Guiler replaces David Synowka, Ph.D., who served as acting head of the department for the last year and now resumes his responsibilities as director of RMU's sport management program.

Assistant professor of accounting Kamala Raghavan was named head of the department of accounting and taxation. A certified public accountant and financial planner, Raghavan also holds NASD broker and principal licenses. While at RMU, she has been actively involved in the School of Business' course-level outcomes assessment at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and has served as thesis advisor for RMU's nonprofit management graduate students.

Raghavan brings extensive corporate experience in financial management, securities, and international banking from major banking institutions that include National City Corporation, Citizens & Southern Corporation, and First City Corporation. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, Financial Management Association, Institute of Certified Financial Planners, and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Raghavan replaces James Rebele, Ph.D., who will resume his role as a professor of accounting in the department.
