The reading specialist program provides teachers with a comprehensive background in literacy. Through a blend of evening coursework and a 6-credit practicum with ELL or special needs students at RMU’s on-site clinic under the direct supervision of an instructor, candidates are fully prepared the Praxis exam and certification as reading specialists from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Candidates study together in a cohort, with the opportunity to test, diagnose, and design a literacy program suitable for an individual or small group of students. The program can be taken as a standalone or combined with three additional courses for an M.Ed. in Literacy.
