Robert Morris University will teach-out the Pittsburgh Filmmakers certificate programs in filmmaking and photography under a new agreement, as Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts closes its school of film, video and photography at the end of 2018.

Through the agreement, RMU will award a certificate in filmmaking and a certificate in photography in the name of Pittsburgh Filmmakers School. Students will take classes already offered by RMU’s media arts department and will have four semesters (Spring and Fall of 2019 and 2020) to complete the program.  

"We are gratified to be able to partner with Pittsburgh Filmmakers to allow its certificate students to complete their programs at RMU,” said David Jamison, RMU provost and interim dean of the School of Communications and Information Systems. “Our faculty hold Pittsburgh Filmmakers in high regard, and their mission complements our professionally-focused approach to higher education."

“Robert Morris University has long had an outstanding media arts program and we are delighted to be partnering with them to ensure Filmmakers students have the opportunity to complete their certificate coursework,” said Dorinda Sankey, PF/PCA’s chief administrative officer. “While our certificate school is closing, Pittsburgh Filmmakers is very much alive, with enrollment now open for our exciting new lineup of winter classes and the Filmmakers member access program set to return in early 2019.”

RMU offers both B.A. and B.F.A. degree programs in Media Arts, which both foster a stimulating learning environment where students are encouraged to explore their creative and professional interests while developing the relevant industry skills and knowledge to build an exciting and rewarding career in media. Concentrations in photography, digital cinema and television, graphic design, and interaction design equip students with a focused educational experience in media arts combined with a real-world business and communications skills curriculum. The program utilizes state-of-the-art facilities. Courses are taught by professors who are practicing media artists, filmmakers, photographers, designers, and scholars, and who hold academic credentials for teaching in higher education.
