Course Description

This course expands upon the diagnostic reasoning skills developed in the Advanced Physical Assessment/Diagnosis, Health Assessment of Children and Adolescents, and Health Assessment of Children and Adolescents Practicum courses and emphasizes utilization of these skills in obtaining a comprehensive physical and psychiatric assessment in children, adolescent and adult patients. Classroom learning provides a comprehensive overview of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition (DSM-5) and utilizing this manual to formulate psychiatric diagnoses. Content on clinical interviewing techniques, mental status assessment, and symptoms of psychiatric illnesses will guide the student through the process of formulating both physical and psychiatric diagnoses.

Prerequisite: NURS8130 and NURS 9120

Co-requisites: NURS9215 or NURS 9230 3 Credits
