Course Description

Legal and ethical principles shape decisions in all health-care settings. This course provides an introduction to these legal and ethical standards. Ethical and legal issues in health care employs a case based approach to develop students' appreciation for and ability to use ethical and legal constructs in health care practice and in the management arena. The course explores the basis for health care law and health care ethics, major legal theories that apply in health care settings, how ethical standards develop and what ethical philosophy means in health care settings.
