OLNP6820 - Social & Organizational Change
Summer 2024
This course introduces students to social movements and social change, social/community development, advocacy, lobbying and the political sphere, community based organizing and leadership, grassroots leadership, social justice issues, the building of civil societies, and intercultural and global challenges for nonprofits to implement plans, reach goals, and sustain themselves. Students will learn why non-profits exist and how, within them, people create some kind of change, improve some segment of civil society, and redress policies that have consequences that contribute to inequality and injustice. Each week the course emphasizes ways in which people mobilize others and students will tap their passions to learn about some social movements, local to global, and assert themselves to initiate a plan for a movement or issue they believe should be addressed.
