HNRS3969 - Honors: Year 2020, A Moment
Summer 2021
HNRS 3969 Honors Seminar: Year 2020, A Moment in Time: Intersections of Race, Class, and Gender
During 2020, we have seen a pandemic expose weaknesses in our healthcare practices, racial protests underscoring systemic racism, and millions of people unemployed in a capitalist system. This course will examine the underlying issues of health disparities, racial injustice, and economic inequities and their impact on the U.S. population particularly through the lens of race, class and gender. Through a series of guest speakers, classroom dialogue and interactive analysis, this learning community will look at the reasons for such inequities, what work has been done, and what work still needs to be done at a grassroots, political, and societal level. The course will conclude with students creating their own understanding of 2020 through their creation of a mini-documentary.
