Military Tradition

From 1776 to 2016, Robert Morris has always been taking care of our veterans.

As George Washington and his soldiers crossed the Delaware to confront the enemy, the U.S. government had fled Philadelphia. Except for Robert Morris. Known as the "Financier of the American Revolution," Robert Morris raised money to pay bonuses and keep America's young army in the field. Today, our university gives the same financial support to our student veterans that our namesake gave.

Stemming from the president of the university across all facets of our institution, you will be sure to receive support as a student veteran on our campus. President Christopher Howard is an esteemed veteran himself. Dr. Howard is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. A retired Air Force reserve lieutenant colonel, Dr. Howard served as a helicopter pilot after earning his doctorate, and then became an intelligence officer for the elite Joint Special Operations Command. Defense Secretary William Cohen asked Dr. Howard to accompany a 1999 U.S. delegation to South Africa as a political-military advisor. He was called back to active duty during 2003 in Afghanistan, and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. Dr. Howard also served as the Reserve Air Attaché to Liberia.
