Dear Student,

You are about to become an integral part of our university. The program of studies you are about to pursue will provide you with a solid grasp of your future profession. However, what you personally choose to pursue in the next four years, beyond academic requirements, will provide your future employers with what they most want to know about you. Corporations, enterprises, hospitals, municipalities and school districts seek the same basic qualities in their candidates. They seek educated, well versed, and well rounded people who have demonstrated a desire to expand their own horizons beyond normal academic life. Proof of this quality has no better base than a personal involvement in the arts.

The best news for you is this: our marching band will not only provide that involvement, it will provide the most positive and fun musical experience you'll ever have. And, RMU is the only local university providing a $900.00 scholarship to all full time band members. Can we make it any better? Don't pass up the opportunity to be a part of the most unique, and fun fueled musical group in the Eastern United States. Throughout its 13 year history, the band has gained the reputation and nickname of the "Coolest Marching Band in the Country." The "Cool" part comes from the fact that we play an R&B, rock and jazz format, and that we wear casual pants, polo shirts and baseball caps. That's right, no band uniform! Pittsburgh area audiences, especially the high school bands who see us, rave about our energy, showmanship and driving, soulful sound. The band has earned standing ovations at each and every one of its band festival appearances.

All of you who were playing members of your high school band, AND have a passion for music performance, should take what may be this one and only lifetime opportunity to have fun, add a quality fine arts experience to your resume - AND get money for it! If you're concerned that band membership may disrupt your academic obligations, you can rest easy. After our week of camp in late August, we hold only two rehearsals per week.
