RMU Experience Video Winner Announced
Moon Township, Pa. -- R.J. Schmidt, a senior communications advertising major, is the winner of the first RMU Experience Video Contest.

Schmidt, from Monroeville, Pa., submitted a one-minute-long video on Chris Walker, a news anchor with RMU-TV. The video focused on the engaged education and professional experience Walker has received from RMU’s Academic Media Center.

“I've worked with Chris in the Academic Media Center for three years now,” said Schmidt. “He is an excellent on-air talent and someone who has had an opportunity to sharpen his skills here at RMU.”

The RMU Experience Video Contest was sponsored by the Department of Public Relations and Marketing, and challenged students to submit a video showing a unique perspective of Robert Morris University and what makes it special. In order to be eligible for the contest, students had to show how RMU does one of the following: fosters a global perspective; promotes engaged learning outside the classroom; supports volunteer service projects; provides opportunities for professional experience; has a faculty that is involved and cares for its students; or backs up its claim that individuals matter.

“I wanted to participate in this contest because I felt it was something that would be a good experience in writing, producing, directing, and editing a piece for use on the web,” said Schmidt. “It’s also something that represents the valuable video production skills I learned here at RMU.”

Schmidt plans to work in either the radio or television field with promotions or commercial production.

For winning the contest, Schmidt received an Aiptek High-Definition Camcorder. His video also has been posted on RMU’s YouTube page, and it will be mentioned in the Campus Report section of Foundations magazine.

Future RMU Experience Video Contests are planned for 2009.
