Junior Competitive Class 
US Figure Skating Freestyle 4 - 5 - 6

Year-Round
The Junior Competitive class builds the foundation of more advanced figure skating skills. Skaters continue to learn skills in the U.S. Figure Skating freestyle test structure (FS 4 - 6) in addition to focusing on moves in the field, dance and footwork sequences. Emphasis is on showing good use of edges and a mastery of the basic skills, single jumps and basic spin positions required in the U.S. Figure Skating testing structure. Skaters are divided into groups based on enrollment and FS test level.

Prerequisites

  • Successful completion of the ISI Freestyle 3 Test or US Figure Skating Freestyle 3 Test
  • Weekly private instruction from an RMU ISC figure skating staff coach
  • Skaters who participate in the Figure Skating Development & Junior Competitive classes must be current members of the United States Figure Skating Association. The annual membership fee of $12.00 must be paid by the skater; registration is available at the Customer Service Desk. The annual membership fee is good from June 1, 2011 - August 31, 2012.

Skill Focus

  • Improving speed and control to enhance flow, carriage and body movement on the ice
  • Techniques for field moves, freestyle, ice dancing, basic pair skating elements and synchronized skating
  • Program development focusing on what judges look for in a competition or test routine
  • Competition preparation - from practice to performance

Class Structure

  • Length of series and fees vary depending on seasonal schedule - please see class schedule for details
  • 30 minute instructional class
  • 10 minute stroking workshop
  • Advanced freestyle, field move and creative freestyle techniques - see prerequisite for enrollment
  • Freestyle practice session

* No Discount for not using the FS session
* Practice freestyle sessions MAY NOT be made-up or credited for another freestyle session.
