As global competition forces businesses to become more efficient, business models themselves must adapt. Individual mangers are now required not only to have a broad understanding of their particular area of expertise, but also to possess a much higher level of business understanding, including how to:
- Understand and utilize published and internal accounting information
- Calculate standard ratios and analyze them in both time series and cross-sectional comparisons
- Create pro-forma income statements utilized in business decision-making process and evaluate these statements using criteria such as payback, net value and rate of return.
- Come to grips with the difference between income and cash flow and hence the need to aggressively manage current assets and liabilities, including inventory models.
