Beginning Fall 2009, Robert Morris University will be offering Early Childhood Education (PK-4), Middle Level Education (4-8), and Special Education (PK-8). These programs are replacing the current Elementary Education certification (K-6).

Early Childhood Education - PreK - Grade 4

The Early Childhood Education program prepares Robert Morris students for rewarding teaching positions, serving the PreK- 4 population (from birth - age 9), in schools, childcare settings, and child focused agencies across the country. Graduates are certified to teach in preschool, kindergarten, and primary classrooms, grades 1-4 in Pennsylvania. The professional core courses, competencies and experiences for the PreK- 4 teacher preparation program develop teachers who are prepared to serve/value our most precious commodity, our children, and their families. Throughout the program RMU’s teacher candidates will develop personal and professional competencies by participating in both theoretical and practical/applied experiences in local, national, and international settings. All teacher candidates complete a set of core experiences in professional education including participation in guided fieldwork.

The professional core courses, competencies and experiences for the Middle Level teacher preparation program develop teachers who are prepared to serve/value our nation's diverse adolescent population, and their families. Candidates will graduate with a concentration in two academic content areas. Middle Level candidates may choose from among the following concentrations: English & Science, Science & Social Studies, Mathematics & Social Studies, Mathematics & Science, English & Mathematics.
