John C. Hayward, Ph.D., P.E.

Hayward joined RMU in Fall 2001 after a 26-year career as a transportation consultant with the Michael Baker Corporation, most recently as executive vice president of the transportation business unit. When he left in 2000, Dr. Hayward was a corporate officer, responsible for the management of the firm’s entire transportation practice. In this capacity he directed the efforts of over 700 engineers and scientists in the planning, design and construction of transportation facilities located across the nation. During the last year of his leadership, this unit recorded annual revenues of $221 million, placing the firm among the largest transportation engineering and construction organizations in the U.S. He has taught undergraduate engineering courses in project engineering, logistics and discrete event simulation, as well as graduate (Masters and Doctoral) courses in cost estimating and financial analysis, project management, systems engineering, and engineering proposal development. Dr. Hayward earned a B.S. in civil engineering from Ohio University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in civil engineering from Penn State University. He has completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School. Dr. Hayward serves on academic and research advisory boards at Ohio University and the Penn State Universities and in 1995 he was recognized as an outstanding engineering alumnus from Penn State.
